YOUTH IN ARMY
Mr. Stimson’s View Of Suitability WASHINGTON, November 5. Five 'new divisions were being formed in the next two mouths, the Secretary of War, Mr. Stimson, told a Press conference when criticizing a Senate amendment requiring IS and 19-year-old men drafted to have a minimum year\< training before going on active service. Mr. Sti.mson said frankly that Hie gentlemen who framed the amendment could not have heard of Pearl Harbour. “The amendment connotes a pre-war mentality ami assumes no enemy will force our hand, but who can foretell the course of the present war? National disaster may result from such restrictions on the Army. The basic trouble with Hie I'cipiireniciit is that it. puts shackles on the war effort and Hies in the face of human experience in war. The Army may be forced to build up divisions for fighting fronts with older men with dependents, leaving behind those best fitted and most eager to light." said Mr. Stimson.
