More Men to Register. Men born between July 1, IJ-4, anu September 30, 1924. are to register lor national service in Britain. Steamer Torpedoed. A Norwegian steamer was torpedoed off Inyack Island at the entrance to Lourenco Marques harbour. She sank almost immediately. A Greek steamer putting out to sea saw the attack, and fired three shots at the submarine, which disappeared. A harbour tug picked up 42 survivors. Twenty-five of the crew arc missing. Wheat For Starving Greece.
Loaded with Canadian wheat, for starving Greece, three Swedish vessels sailed under the auspices of the Red Cross and guaranteed safe conduct by the British, German, and Italian governments. This was the second shipment under the agreement whereby Canada is donating 500,000 bushels a month. Mr. R. V. Vernon Dead. The death has occurred of Mr. Roland Venables Vernon, C.B. He was Assistant General Secretary to the Minister of Munitions in 1915-18, and carried out important special missions abroad tor the British Government. In 1925-28 he was financial adviser to the Government of Iraq.
