To the troops responsible for its capture, perhaps the most notable feature of the reoccupation of Kokoda was the addition of fresh food to the Army menus. After the meagre rations of the five weeks’ campaign in the Owen Stanley mountains, boiled green peas ami chokos were welcome addition to bully beet. Pineapple from the fertile fields of ihe district was a special delicacy.
