U.S. RECOGNITION OF VICHY
Foreign Policy Defended (Received November 4, 9.20 p.m.) WASHINGTON, November 3. When the records are unfolded and the public understands fads now necessarily withheld, there will be less criticism of the United States continued recognition of Vichy and her other foreign policy. This statement was made by the Secretary of State, Mr. Hull, at a Press conference. When asked to comment on Mr. Willkie’s criticism that “lack of courageous leadership was nowhere more plainly illustrated than tlie continued recognition of tlie vicious and subversive Vichy Government." Mr. Hull added that lie did not intend to engage in any controversy on that. Tlie Government and the State Department were entirely content at the course being pursued in relations with Vichy as well as other foreign policy.
