WAR WORK RECORD

Staunch Women’s Institute Workers Ln the programme of war work which the ’Women's Institutes of the South Wellington Federation have lollowei, some excellent results have been achieved. A record of work completed during the past six months was given by Mrs. it. S. Powell, Levin, honorary secretary, at the half-yearly federation council meeting held at Waikanae recently. Garments knitted for the armed forces consisted of 30 pullovers and polo jersejs, Lil scarves, five skull caps, 100 pairs mittens, IS pairs gloves, 203 pairs socks, 134 balaclavas, 2.j Cramnell jackets, 20 pairs bed socks, seven knitted waistcoats. 52 bed-pan covers and three hot-water bag covers. Forty towels and face cloths were made, 17 eiderdowns, eight hospital bags, one hospital ship bag and a great number of papier inache articles for the Bed Cross. Eighty-six parcels were sent to the Lady Galway Guild and an additional OST garments. One hundred and twenty soldiers’ parcels were sent and amounts of £4B/1/- and £-J were raised for patriotic purposes. The gathering was held, at the invitation of the Reikorangi-Waikanae branch. Mrs. Monk, president of the hostess institute, welcomed visitors. Mrs. Synnott, Otaki, president of the federation, welcomed Mrs. Bennett of the Dominion executive, Mrs. Price, Hutt Valley Federation, and all members. Ihreeminute reports from institutes were read bv delegates, Otaki and Levin institutes tying for first place. Mrs. Synnott congratulated branches on their splendid reports, their support of women’s institute interests, the amount of war work done and the success of the drama festival. Mrs. Powell will represent; the federation at the Dominion council meetAn address was given by Mr. Monk, chairman of the Horowhcnua. County Council. The afternoon session was spent out of doors, when a drill display was given by pupils of Alesdames Collins and Broiyn of the Waikanae school.
