More titan HIM servicemen guests were welcomed at Ute Spinsters' Club in Wellington on Sunday, the Majestic Cabaret being filled to capacity. Three ot tae men, Gunners Salisbury, Delaney am Cheesemtili, played extras for ami items were given by Miss Yola Matson (dances). Miss I'egg JHghel and Miss Joyce Myers (songs), and .Mr. Norman Izett (piano accordion solos). Mr. A. Dwan, who generously places his services at the club's disposal and acts its muster of ceremonies every Sunday, received a birthday gift from members at it recent gathering, in token of their iipprocmtlon of his interest in the club. The Grosvenor Clubs ballroom, and lounges were crowded on Friday, Satiirduv and •Sunday. Thanks tire extended to' Miss I‘at Cottle for kindly giving .Monte Carlo prizes, and to Mrs. i>. Brnnilev an’l Mr. C. Nichols for supplying the music. Sunday evening teas are liecoming popular in the new canteen, and gifts of home-made cookies would be appreciated ; these could be left at the clubrooms on Sunday afternoons. Girls on dntv nt the weekend included Misses b. Hitynes, C. Ferguson, M. Chappell aud T. Davies. The Hutt Valley lounger bet. dances, held in SI. James’ parish hall, arc becoming more po|>ultir every Wednesday. Mnnv servicemen enjoy dancing to the bri"lit music of the orchestra and the company of happy, pnrtners. much appreciated by the committee. The PHtroness Mrs. J. Andrewts ant* the president Mrs. H. B. Ashe. Members ot the Brooklyn Lownswouien’s Guild, with Mrs. O. Contbeiir as convener, were hostesses at the Wellington Y.M.C.A. soldiers’ tea on Sunday. Mr Ray Smith was cha’rmnn, Mr. Bailiu"er, of tlte Y.M.C.A. board of directors, being associated with him. A birthday cake made and given by Mrs. Ihtllpot was cut bv -Mrs- Conibettr, items were given bv Mr. K. Mttcauley, Miss AV. Kindred and Mr. Strong, Y.M.C.A. secretary (songs), Mr. E. Foley (violin solo), Mr. N. Izett (piano accordeon solos), Miss L. Macalister (elocutionary number). The accompanists were Mrs. C. McDonald and Miss R. Lowe. Mr. 11. Hindle led community singing with Air. Wood at the piano. , , , , An exceptionally busy weekend was experienced by the Catholic Services Club with its three nights’ entertainments. Guests who played dance extras were .Messrs. R. Painter, N. Cosgrove, B. Catternole, and R. Smith, with Miss I ■ Kelly at the piano and Mr. R. Smith, drums. Members of the Sacred Heart Old Girls’ Association were in charge of catering, under the eonveuership of Miss Calhleen Goodson. Tlte hostesses wore Misses Winifred Delaney and Barbara Logan. Gifts of vegetables from (lie W.W.S.A. land group at Lower Hutt, Parapnrnumu and Aitken Street helped in providing meals.
Annual Sale, of Work. Sirs. C. Stewart, M.P., will open the annual stile of work of Ute Cambridge Terraee Congregational Ladies' Guild tomorrow al. li o'clock. There will be the usual well-stocked stalls and goods suitable for Christmas gifts will lie available The sale will lie continued nt niglit and the following afternoon and evening. A programme has been arranged for each night.
