ATTACK BY E-BOATS
Destroyer Sinks One (British Oflicial Wireless.) RUGBY, November 1. A battle between the British destroyer Westminster and German Eboats on the night of October 13 has been described, by one of the destroyer’s officers. The Westminster claimed to have sunk one E-bout and damaged two others. The destroyer wao escorting a convoy in the North Sea when the sound of the E-boats’ engines was first heard. “There seemed to be jiboijtlß E-boats attacking at various times,” the officer said. “They came iu waves, the first three of which were driven off. Things then became too hot for the E-boats and they laid a smoke-screen, but we hit one of the enemy squarely with three shells ami she appeared to fall to bits.” The engagement took place on the anniversary of a similar fight in which the Westminster claimed to have sunk two E-boats a year tigo. The British destroyer Wolverine rammed a U-boat in the Mediterranean after escorting a Malta convoy and carried it on her bows for some yards. The U-boat then dropped into the sea and a few seconds! later blew up and sank with all her crew. Tills was the third U-boat sunk by the Wolverine,
