Vice-Regal. Government House, Wellington, 'November 2. His Excellency the Governor-General received Air Commodore R. V. Goddard, Chief of the Air Staff, this morning.
Sir Harry Batterbee, High Commissioner in New Zealand for the United Kingdom, will visit Christchurch this week and will address tlie annual meeting of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce on Thursday. Mr. E. Palllser has been re-elected chairman of tlie roads committee of the Automobile Association (Wellington). The Rev. P. J. Wainwright, minister of the Island Buy Presbyterian Church, has received a call to St. Peter’s Church, Tauranga. Mr. H. A. Beauchamp, managing director of Kodak New Zealand, Limited, will leave shortly by air on a business visit to Australia.
.Messrs. AndOrseti Tyrer and Henri Penn are at present examining New Zealand pupils on behalf of tlie Trinity College of Music, London.
Tlie Rev. J. E. Ashley-Jones, vicar of Northland, is retiring from active church work from February .1. 1943. Born and educated in England, Mr. Ashley-Jones was ordained in Canada 42 years ago. Thirty-six years ago Mr. Ashley-Jones came to New Zealand and was appointed vicar of I’araparaumu. About 20 years ago lie was given charge of the combined districts of Wadostown and Northland, mid in the lust four years lie has been vicar of St. Anne's. Northland.
