DRIVERS’ AWARD
Full Settlement Reached
The proceedings in the Court of Arbitration, which had before it on Thursday and yesterday the Dominion motor and horse-drivers’ dispute, ended lute yesterday afternoon with the announcement that the parties had reached a full settlement. There were 27 clauses in dispute when the case was first called, and at the suggestion of the Court the representatives of the parties conferred to reduce rhe scope of the dispute. When the Court resumed last yesterday the workers' advocate, Mr. 1. C. Allerby, announced that they had come to a complete settlement, and he applied to the Court for what they had agreed on to be made into an award. He thanked the Court for its patience and the freedom it had extended to the parties to get together. , „ The employers’ advocate, Mr. w . Anderson, endorsed what Mr. Allerby had said, and thanked tlie Court lor the assistance and advice it had given. It was a mutter for satisfaction, Mr. Justice Tyndall replied, that tlie parties bad so willingly accepted its suggestion, and he paid a tribute to the coneiliutory attitude of the parties’ representatives. The new award will differ from the old award principally in the method ot computing overtime worked over the 40-hour week, and wages paid by licensed operators have been adjusted in relation to tiie wages paid to other drivers, The seasonal work clause has been clarified. Two years will be Hie term of flic award.
