CHIEF POST OFFICE
Whole Parapet For Demolition Five hundred, tons of brickwork have
been removed from the Central Post Office in Wellington through the demolition of the clock tower and the parapet round the old building, which faces the waterfront. /. It is now intended to pull down part of the wall of the third story'there, extending from the tower base round Grey Street, to where it joins the more modern building, and it is estimated that this will require the removal of a further 300 tons of masonry. That part of the wall which is to be demolished will be replaced by wood, to function till the replacement of the building, which is contemplated. It is intended now to demolish tlie parapet round the whole of the post office block. This involves the removal of that on the main building facing Featherston Street, as a precautionary measure against any future earthquakes.
