TIME TO COMPLY

Medical Advertisements Act COMMENT BY MINISTER (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, October 29. “The Medical Advertisements Act does not come into operation till the beginning of the year,” said the Minister of Health, Mr. Nordmeyer, tonight. “Time has thus been allowed to enable manufacturers to terminate their advertising contracts and to change their labels, etc., where these are likely to offend.” Asked whether the personnel of the board had yet been selected, the Minister said that au announcement would not be made for some little time. He indicated, however, that the members would be chosen for their scientific knowledge, and judicial capacity. When invited to comment ou the suggestion of the Dunedin Manufacturing Chemists Group that provision should bo made for appeals, Mr. Nordmeyer said that he thought this was scarcely necessary, as it was intended to appoint a pharmaceutical chemist as one of the members. As the committee would make its decisions on fact, he added, it was hardly necessary to set up.a further board to reconsider its decisions.

DEMAND FOR RIGHTS OF APPEAL Dominion Special Service. CHRISTCHURCH, October 29. Support for the Dunedin manufacturing chemists in their opinion that the Medical Advertisements Act was a necessary measure but fell short of the requirements of British justice by not giving the right of appeal to persons affected by its provisions was expressed today by Mr. 11. A. Ford for the Manufacturing Chemists Trade Group (of which he is chairman) of tlie Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association.

The Act, he said, bad been considered at a meeting of the group and members had requested that the federation should press for the appointment of a manufacturing chemist to the board to be set up under the Act and for provision to be made for appeals against the decisions of the board.
