NO REASON FOR PESSIMISM

Battle In Solomons (Received October 29. 1.40 a.in.) SYDNEY, October 28. The general-demeanour oNmembers of the War Council after a’ meeting tonight seemed to suggest quiet confidence in the outcome of the battle of the Solomon Islands, says the Canberra correspondent of the Australian United Press. The Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Forde, said Cabinet had. discussed reports which were submitted by the service chiefs on the campaigns in New Guinea, the Solomons and the Middle East. For security reasons he could not disclose the contents of the reports. The correspondent adds that it is understood that the reports received in Australia indicate that there is no justification for pessimism as to the outcome of the Solomons battle.
