News And Notes . Victoria League Shop Day. The last Victoria League shop day of the year in WeUingtdn will be held at the league rooms, fourth floor, D.I.C. Building, tomorrow. The proceeds are for the King George anil Queen Elizabeth Hostel, London, which has done so much for New Zealanders in England. All friends will be welcome. There will be stalls for cakes, sweets, produce, flowers, fancywork, and u “white elephant” stall. Visitors Hold Dance for Hostesses. The girls of the Miramar Fighting Services Hospitality Club were recently entertained at a dauce, given by regular club guests. Items this week were given by the Misses L. V. and F. ComptonAfternoon tea, tea and supper were provided by the Catholic Women’s Guild of Miramar. Music for dancing was played by Mr. M. L. Jones and the popular master of ceremonies, S/Sgt. George Spooner, was welcomed back from furlough. Presentation at Webby’s. Spirited music and items by guests contributed to. the success of the entertainment at Webby’s Club last Saturday. During the evening the president introduced Miss Kathleen O'Connor and ex- ‘ pressed the appreciation of herself, members of the club and guests at the generosity in making available her studio while Webby’s Club was being repaired. The hon. treasurer, Miss V. Mae Donald, on behalf of the. girls, thanked Miss O'Connor, and presented her with a token of their esteem and a gift for Mrs. Gault. Dancing for tho Fighting Forces. The dance floor was well crowded at. the Fighting Forces Club last week. Music on Friday night was played by a dance band and on Saturday Mr. J. Chalmers was the pianist. Extras jilayed by Aircraftman Frazer were appreciated and thanks were extended to Mrs. Edmunds and Mrs. Logan for gifts of cakes and assistance w’ith supper arrangements. With Miss Mabel James as leader the following girls helped with weekend duties:—Misses Leila Wilson, Olga Mc-Mahon-Box, Thelma Louden and Ana Thompson. Additional Space for New Club. At yesterday's meeting of the Wellington Provincial Patriotic Council the chairman, Mr. Hislop, announced that the club for servicewomen would be ready for occupation in from two _ to three weeks. The .original allocation for refittings and furnishings had been £lOOO but it had now been considered necessary Io secure adijitionai space in the same building on Lambtou Quay, for which another 30/- a week would be paid by way of rent. As I his entailed a good deni of plumbing, as the space was to be used for bathrooms, showers, and lavatories, he asked that the allocation be increased to £1504). This was agreed to. Delegates and members from sister guilds in the Dominion, who were visiting Wellington for their annual council meeting, were present at. the monthly meeting of the Miramar 'l’ownswomen’s Guild (-Dominion Federation), held recently. Miss Jerome Spencer, 0.8. E., Napier, Dominion president, gave a talk on tho aims and objects of the guild and Mrs. Barton read letters from soldiers overseas, Iwo from a prisoner of war in Germany and one from Birmingham, giving details of the bombings of Hint city. The guild lias completed another £!()' parcels containing comforts to he dispatched overseas for soldiers. Afternoon ton, tea and supper were recently supplied at. the Fighting Services Club al Miramar. Mrs. L. Barton sang two solos. *
