Theft Of Dress Materials

Sydney Kliuberg, managing director of Tiny Tots Manufacturing Company, wno had been found guilty by a jury of having, about June 10, 1041, stolen .4300 yards ov ffeorsette and 5000 yards ot kabe crepe, total value £1179/5/10, the goods of Woolworths (N.Z.) Limited, came before Mr. Justice Blair for sentence in the Supreme Court, Wellington, yesterday. Mr W J. Stacey, who appeared lor prisoner, said that Klinberg really acted the part of receiver in the transaction. Tile goods had literally been thrown at him, and even a convenient buyer bad been found for him. It was an isolated transaction. He ‘had lost a good business, as he had just arranged to start another factory. Prisoner had been in no previous trouble, and counsel asked that he might be admitted to probation. His Honour said that the evidence showed that two lots of material had reached prisoner. What had become of the second lot? Mr. W. H. Cunningham, who represented the Crown, said he had been advised that the second lot of material had been sold by prisoner to a local firm. His Honour Said that prisoner had got iu alt £1179 worth of stuff. Mr. Stacey said that prisoner was endeavouring with Woolworths to clear up the whole of the transactions, and he was prepared to do his best to make restitution. ■ His Ilonopr deferred sentence till this morning in order that further information might be obtained.
