GLIDER CHIEF KILLED

With the death of Lieutenant-Colonel John Rock from injuries received m a -iii < r crash the identity of the first coninmndiiig officer of the glider pilot regiment Ims been revealed. Lieutenant-Colonel Rock was a regu- ■ Jar officer in the Royal Engineers., lie served in France in j 1)39-40 as a brigade major. After Dunkirk he was given the task of originating the British airborne ami parachute force. He shared all the risks- and had a number of narrow escapes in the experimental days two years ago. and his last accident occurred in an experimental glider flight.
