WOMEN’S ABILITY
Responsible War Work
(British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, October 24.
The increasing ability of women to undertake highly responsible war work hitherto performed by men was under-, lined by Miss Ellen Wilkinson when opening the national fire service exhibition in South London. Firewomen, she said, had edged their way into more responsible fire-fighting jobs and were now entering the responsible position of mobilizing officers. This work, which included the directing of services, called for intelligence of a high order, clear thinking and cool judgment. Women had proved so able as mobilizing officers that more were being trained for the work.
