HEAVY ATTACK ON GENOA

Rome Admission MUCH DAMAGE BY THE R.A.F. First Of This Year LONDON, October 23. ' Royal Air Force bombers last night made a heavy raid on Genoa, Italy’s largest port. The last air raid on the port was made a little less than a year ago. Early this year British warships pumped 300 tons of shells into the port. Rome officially announces that the raid on Genoa was of “notable dimensions” and admits that considerable damage was done. Turin was also bombed, and fires were started, Rome says. . This is ithe seventh air attack on Genoa which is about 700 miles from England, involving, a round, trip of some 1200 miles of enemy territory and twice crossing the Alps. Details of the raid are not yet available, but it is officially stated that the port was heavily bombed. Not a single bomber was lost. Genoa, while being the-largest port in the Mediterranean, is also an important industrial centre an dthe home of the enormous Ansaldo munitions and motor works.
