WELLINGTON R.S.A.
New Accommodation “Today the Wellington Returned Services' Association heads the list of membership for New Zealand,” said Colonel C. H. Weston, president of the Wellington R.S.A., in an interview yesterday. “This Is so not only in the total number of members, but also the number of 2nd N.Z.E.F. servicemen who have returned from overseas and whom this association has been proud to welcome “Of recent months, an appeal was made by the association for a building fund whereby money could be obtained to acquire suitable premises for housing the Returned Services’ Association in keeping with the obligations it will be compelled to fulfil on account of increasing membership. Up to September, 1942, the net result for the ■Wellington centre area was £10,318, and the amount of £2570 was additionally obtained for the Hutt Valley sub-branch of the association; the latter have already acquired a building site and are now awaiting a favourable opportunity to proceed with a building scheme, "The Wellington association has purchased the freehold of the premises it now occupies at. 12 Victoria Street, and, as certain alterations are required to improve the existing building, negotiations are now being entered into. When the whole of the proposals have been carried out," Colonel Weston concluded, “the association will have premises, offices and increased accommodation that will serve its purposes for many years to come."
