SOLID PLASTERERS
New Award Granted A new award covering solid plasterers in Hie Northern. Taranaki. Wellington, Marlborough and Nelson industrial districts has been issued by the Court of Arbitration. The award, which represents the agreement of the parties, so far as it relates to wages, is deemed to have eome Into force on October 12, 1042, and it will continue in force till October 42. 1943. The minimum rate of pay for journeymen remains at 2/10J an hour, and hours ot work remain at 40 a week. Several new clauses have been Inserted. For any work done in excess of four hours on Saturdays or after 12 noon on Saturdays double time rates shall be paid. Any worker having to work all day, and having to continue to work till midnight shall be given eight hours off, or be paid double time rates for all time worked on the second day. Anv worker ordered out to work on any Saturday, Sundav or any holiday shall receive not less than four hours’ pay at overtime nites for so doing. Workers under the new award, are now to receive payment for statutory holidays, including Labour Day. Any worker attending at the place of work, and being stood down by reason of there being no work (other ' than on account of weather), shall receive two hours’ pay at ordinary rates unlesk 'previously notified that his services were not required for that day. In the case of work not proceeding at the commencement of the day because of bad weather, workers so attending shall be paid for one hour. If men arc required .by the employer to stand by in wet weather, they shall be paid half ordinary rates for the first 36 minutes .and ordinary time thereafter till definitely• stopped, with a maximum payment for one hour a day. Any allowance by way of travelling time made to Workers employed on suburban work shall not be regarded as a set-off tigainst minimum payments due to workers under the foregoing sub-clauses. Meal money is increased from 1/6 to 1/9. Fibrous Plasterers.
A new award filed by the Court of Arbitration for fibrous plasterers ig very similar to that for solid plasterers. Journeymen's wages remain at 2/9 an hour, and the hours of work remain at 44) a week. A new clause provides that workers required by their work to travel to or from their homes when public traffic is not Operating shall be paid for travelling time, computed on three miles an hour, at ordinary rates of pav.
