CONSERVATION OF RUBBER
Chief Transport Problem Conservation o£ rubber was the outstanding problem, said the Minister of Transport, Mr. Semple, opening the tenth annual conference of the New Zealand Road Transport Alliance in Wellington on Wednesday. It was fully realized that thousands of people were inconvenienced by the reduction of normal services, but nothing so far done in New Zealand equalled the retrenchments in many overseas countries, notably the United States of America and Canada. The Minister said that he regarded transport as the life of the nation, because money would have no value unless the necessary goods' could be distributed. Transport played a vital part in the war, so that there was no alternative to curtailment. Mr. Semple added that he looked to the transport industry to effect economies and to the people to accept inconvenience in order that vital services might be maintained.
