News And Notes Annual Jumble Sale. The Wellington Free Kindergarten Council will hold its annual jumble sale this Friday, at the Free Kindergarten, Taranaki Street. The sale will be at 0 o’clock, as usual, and it is anticipated that there will be many bargains. Gifts for the sale will be greatly appreciated, and can be left at the kindergarten any time before 10 o’clock on the morning of the sale. Adventures in the Kitchen. . At the monthly meeting of the Ngaio branch of the League of Mothers, Mrs. W. S. Rollings was in the chair. Two new members were received on transfer from branches at Wadestown and Petone. The speaker for the afternoon was Mrs. H. W. Kersley, whose subject was “Adventures in the Kitchen. Mrs. R. G. Millward sang. Gifts of Cookies Needed. The Grosvenor Club for servicemen had a busy weekend, all the club facilities being used to full advantage, specially the writing tables. Thanks are e.ftenued to Meedamcs Scott, Heron, O Neill, De - ery, Harris, Gordon, Garratt, Maris and Stvch. whose generous assistance was fully appreciated. Gifts of lioiue-niade cookies for Sunday tea would be :lPPr<x.iated, and these may be left at the studio on Friday nights or Sunday afternoons. Hutt Services Club. . A record number of guests filled J , 'rooms of the Lower Hutt Services Ciub over the weekend, the hostesses being the Happiness Club women. Home-made fare was provided, and each guest v ‘>s presented with the club s blue bird emblem. Mrs. Scrimgeour, Wellington director, Mrs. Jarrer, Hutt president, Mrs. It. J. McCracken, Mr. Brien O’Brien, and Mesdames J. Gar.vitch and Hyndeman, with Mrs. F. Stokes at the piano, combined in presenting the entertainment. The younger hostess members were on duty at afternoon tea, and also at supper-time. Mr. Kyle was the master of ceremonies. Spinsters’ Club Activities. The Spinsters Club held its annual • meeting recently, there being a good attendance of members. .Lhe annual report disclosed that members had worked hard and that activities had expanded. Officers elected were: President, Mrs. L. M. Hyams; vice-presidents, Mesdames A. D. Bayfeild, E. L. Akroyd, G. Steele V. Gray, Warburton, Misses D. Isaacs, E. Moore and Beresford; ; committee, Misses Lorna Akroyd, chairman, Peggy Hyams, secretary, K ancy Whittaker, treasurer, and. Joan Bayfeild, Marcello Haughey, Nell Reeknell, lat Inglis, Peggy Fallaver. Webby’s Club. . • Large numbers of guests were catered for at Webbv’s Club during the weekend. Sunday visitors were provided with tea and the ballroom was crowded with dancers. A number of dances were played for by Miss M. Stevens and two men guests. During the evening a visitor sang, accompanied by Mrs. Webb. Thopportunity w-as taken to welcome home some of the friends who had been absent from. Webby’s Club for some time. Saturday there will be a special night, as usual, through the generosity ot Miss Kathleen O’Connor. Activities are carried on at her studio, ou Saturdays from 7 o’clock and on Sundays from Z.dU. Active Auxiliary. The president of'the Wellington x-M. GA Air R H. Ninimo, heartily congratulated the Y.M.C.A Boys’ Division Ladies’ Auxiliary, on the results of its efforts at the annual meeting held recently. Airs. A. E. Brooker presided oyer a large' gathering of members. .Both the annual report and the financial statement created a large . amount ot steady work. Members, in addition to providing equipment for the Boys Division, had assisted twice monthly its optimists luncheon, helped at the mayoress s 1 atriotic Guild, and latterly had undertaken the making of soldiers’ beds five days a week at the Y.M.C.A. The election of officers resulted as follows: 1 resident, Airs. Brooker; secretary, Airs, btreak. treasurer, Mrs. Goetzlof.

Wilson’s, 52 Willis Street, are showing their new season’s collection of smart hats. Summer felts and straws are displayed in a great range of colours. A very smart -black hat of summer felt has a sharply up-turned brim edged with straw' crochet and round the top of the crown is the same smart finish.—Advt.
