VOLUNTARY AIDS’ PAY
“Rates of pay of voluntary aids employed by hospital boards have recently been under review,” said the Minister of Health, Mr. Nordmeyer, i.i a written answer to a question asked by Mr. Lee (Democratic Labour, Grey Lvnn), on behalf of Mr. Barnaid (Democratic Labour, Napier). The Minister added that boards were being recommended to pay not less than £l/10/- a week for the first year of setvice and £l/15/- for the second year of service, with an additional £l/15/a week if the aid lived out. Boards were also being recommended to provide indoor uniforms in all cases. Most boards already did so. An aid living out usually received a refund of all travelling expenses in excess of <>/ weekly. On any day that her hours of duty overlapped ordinary meal-times free meals were provided.
