Vice-Regal. Government House. Wellington, October 2il. Their Excellencies the Governor-Gen-eral received Mr. F. R. Plcot, New Zealand Commissioner for Supply, this morning. Later, his Excellency received Sir Harry Batterbee, United Kingdom High' Commissioner. Her Excellency Lady Newall was present at a meeting of the Voluntary Aid Council of the New Zealand Red Cross Society. Their Excellencies the GovernorGeneral and Lady Newall, attended by Major C. J. Holland-Martin, left- Wellington this afternoon for Hawke’s Bay. Their Excellencies will return to Wellington on Sunday afternoon. Sir Michael Myers, Chief Justice, will return to Wellington from Palmerston North this afternoon. Mr. R. Worley, manager of the Auckland Gas Company, is visiting Wellington. Mr. R. E. Price, chairman of the Waterfront Control Commission, is visiting Auckland. Mr. Peter Heywood Macdonald recently retired from the service of the Union Company after an unbroken period of 41 years at sea in the company’s vessels. This is believed to be a record for the Mercantile Marine of the Dominion. Mr. Macdonald, who was born at Port Chalmers in 1878, commenced his sea career in 1901 with the Union Company as fourth engineer of the Whangape. In 1911 he was promoted to chief engineer of the Kaituna, and from that date till his retirement he served in a similar capacity lu no fewer than 28 vessels of the company’s fleet.
