Humanitarian Projects

. Thousands, of European children, mostly French, will be given three months’ holiday in Switzerland. This was announced by the International Red Cross delegate, Mr. Marc Peter. The Swiss Government has approved of the project, which plans to build up physically children who are suffering from ixior health and other war conditions. . • , . , “Refugee children who are bein a brought to the United States from France will not be of any particular race or nationality, but simply those whose parents from unoccupied France have been forced into virtual slavery , in Germany, leaving the children practically orphaned in France;” the Under-Sccre-tar'y of State, Mr. Sumner Welles, told Pressmen yesterday. Asked if it was correct that ;>OOO children were being brought to the United States Mr. Welles declined to confirm or deny this. He said that the children were practically destitute, providing a problem which would appeal lo the deepest humanitarian instincts.
