AFTER STIFF FIGHT
British Take Town In Madagascar (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, October 16. The British forces in Madagascar have occupied Ambositra, 142 miles south of Antananarivo, says a communique from the Commander-m-Chief, East Africa. Ambositra fell after stiff fighting in which we took 170 prisoners. , A Vichy communique admits that the British captured Ambositra, “after being compelled to wage a ferocious 'fight in which they paid a heavy price. Only the superiority of the enemy m men and material overcame the French resistance.” VICHY CLAIMS CAPTURE OF EQUIPMENT (Received October IS, 10.30 p.m.) VICHY, October 17. A Madagascar communique states: “Violent lighting is going on south ot Ambositra. After lively patrol engagements and violent artillery and air attacks, the British launched a mass attack on our positions. Despite a large number of British armoured ears, the invader was compelled to withdraw, leaving valuable equipment which we rendered useless.” ■ ■'
