Move For Unity In Fight Against Hitlerism MEETING JN WELLINGTON The initial steps for the formation ot all Slavonic peoples in the Wellington district into an association to suitport their countries in the light, against Hitlerism were taken at a meeting held in Wellington yesterday. Mr. T. Marinovich presided, and an address was given toy Mr. T. Lissienko. Subsequently a number of resolutions were adopted as follows:-* That this combined meeting of Slavs of the Wellington district sends fraternal greetings to the heroic family of peoples in the U.S.S.R. in their great, valiant and epic struggle for the freedom and happiness of humanity against the monstrous military machine of Fascist murderers and aggressors. Without many words we declare that we do not separate our fate from that of the U.S.S.R. in the life and death struggle of all progressive humanity, including the Slavs, against Hitlerite Germany and its allies, because we realize fiillv that the defeat of the U.S.S.R. would have meant the death of the freedom and independence of all thb other peoples for generations. We call on al* Slavs to go hand in hand in winning our common victory over Nazism .and Fascism. „ „ , , That this meeting sends fraternal greetings to the unknown heroes of the underground movement in Slavonic countries in Europe enslaved by Fascist aggressors. Great and dignified is the heroism of those who, with weapons in their hands, are defending their land from invaders, but not less is that of those who, amid Fascist darkness and destruction, are leading the great underground liberating struggle. Eternal memory to our Slavonic friends in Poland, the Ukraine, White Russia, Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia who are being hanged and tortured to death by Fascist executioners. That we send to the President of Czechoslovakia, Dr. Benes, for the coming Czechoslovakian Day of Independence on Octobmer 28 our warm fraternal greetings and. assurances of our support in the struggle of the freedom-loving Czechoslovakian for their independence and freedom. with all determination, straightforwardness and fratnernal solidarity. Long live the free and independent Czechoslovakian Republic. Long live the courageous and immortal people of Czechoslovakia. , ./ That this meeting sends warm greetings to the Chetniks of General Draga Mikhailovitch, who are fighting for the honour, dignitv and independence of Slavonic people, and for the common cause ot all J 1U Th e n meeting also adopted a. resolution appealing ito the' National executive of the Patriotic Fund for a grant of £20,000 for medical aid to the U.S.S.R. Signatures were obtained for the iollowing cable to be sent to Mr Churchill by the Society for Closer Relations with name of the freedom, honour and dignity of. the British nation we urge an immediate opening of a second front in Europe against Hitler. We urge this in honest fulfilment of our obligations to our gallant Allies, whose noble, struggle merits the maximum as “s ta ““- The fate of our country and of the British people is being decided today on the Russian front. Russia’s destruction or weakening means Britain’s destruction and weakening." We ask that action be taken now to hasten the end of this war For our own security and. speedy victory let us have a second front now. Bet the Anglo-SoViet Treaty be a pact of deeds, not words.”
