Mr. F. Andrews, of. the Post and Telegraph Department, is retiring. Mr. Andrews, who is m his 40th year of service, has had a remarkable carper, and will be remembered by the many thousands of callers at the stamps and delivery counters at the Chief Post Office. When Mr. Andrews left school, he was learning dentistry, but he soon gave that un and for 12 months worked m a sawmill in the South Island. Then he tried his hand at. the grocery business, and finally joined the Kailways Department as a cadet. From there he was transferred to the Post and Telegraph Department During his period of service with that department he has been on loan to many distinguished officials as private secretary, and was at the elbow of the late Sir Joseph Ward in his big election campaign in Invercargill. He is also known to thousands of radio listeners throughout Australia and New Zealand. Mr. Andrews is also the proud possessor of delightful personal letters from the Duke of Windsor (then Prince of Wales, when visiting New Zealand) ; Mr. Bert Ralton, conductor of the famous Savoy Havana Band, London, who was accidentally killed in South Africa; and Mr. and Mrs. Howell (known as “Fred and Maggie Everybody”), who all pay a tribute to his well-known comedy pianoplaying.
