WOMEN JURORS
Given Right To Serve
The right of women to serve as jurors should they desire to do so is given in the Women Jurors (No. 2) Bill, which was introduced and read a first time yesterday. The AttorneyGeneral, Mr. Mason, explained that the .Bill was identical with one which had been introduced by Mrs. Dreaver (Government, Waitemata), and declared out of order.
The Bill states that any woman between 25 and 60 years of age who possesses the necessary qualifications and who notifies the sheriff in writing that she wishes to serve as a juror shall be qualified and liable to serve on juries in the game manner as if . she were a man. The names and addresses of women who wish to serve are to be transmitted by the sheriff to the superintendent of police for the district concerned, and if he is satisfied the names may be added to the jury list.
