Red Cross Fund. The Red Cross and Order of St. John Fund in the third year of the war collected £(>,900,000, compared with £4,000,000 in the second year and £3,000,000 in the first year of the war.
Report Denied. A New York message says that though the Press is giving tremendous publicity to Joe Louis's reported retirement, Louis told Promoter Mike Jacobs emphatically that he is not retiring, mid, furthermore, that ns soon as the war is over lie will be back in the ring defending his title. The New York Athletic Commissioner, Mr. Phelan, declared that Louis will be regarded as world champion till he submits written notice of his retirement.
New Zealanders Broadcasting. The New Zealander, Dr. 11. P. Donald, formerly of Lincoln Agricultural College, is broadcasting in the 8.8.C.'s Pacific service at 7.45 p.m. G.M.T. today. Ordinary Seaman D, S. Hart, a former teacher at Feilding Agricultural College, is broadcasting nt 9 p.m. G.M..1. tomorrow on convoys to Russia and Malin, m which 'he participated. U.S. Freighter Sunk. The United States Navy Department has announced that a medium-sized American freighter was torpedoed amt sunk off the Pacific Coast several days ago. Survivors were landed at a » est Coast port. Long Flight Ending. , Mr. Wendell Willkie lias departed from Edmonton (Alberta), homeward bound on the last section of bis 30,000-milo round-the-world flight.
