QUAKE DAMAGE TO CHURCHES

Presbytery Urges Aid

Dominion Special Service. AUCKLAND, Octolier 13.

The finance committee of the general assembly has drawn tl;e attention of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand to the losses incurred in the Wairarapa and Wellington districts by the severe earthquakes in June and August last. In a circular to all boards of management, the Presbytery of Auckland states that one church, Gladstone, was totally destroyed and that £2OOO would l>e required to rebuild.

The finance committee of the presbytery has asked the Presbyterian Church to express sympathy with affected congregations in a practical way, even though the congregations have not asked for outside help. The committee lias urged the boards of management in unaffected areas to do something tangible to raise funds to assist affected congregations. These are to be forwarded to the general treasurer in Wellington.
