Northern Dish At Commandant It is announced that Miss Dorothy M. Hawkins.' Auckland, at present commandiir' the Women’s National Service Corps, Ims been appointed Northern Military District commandant of the Women’s
Auxiliary Army Corps, to which all women recruited for Army service will belong. Aliss Hawkins at present holds the W.N.S.C. rank of major. For the past 14 years Aliss Hawkins has been on the teaching staff of Hilltop School, Khyber Pass, where she has been well-known as gymnasium and games mistress. She went to Auckland from Canberra, where she held the first Federal apopintment of women’s social service worker.
Aliss Hawkins was born in England and was studying in South Africa at the outbreak of the last war. She returned
to Britain and joined the Women's Royal Air Force, later appointed administrator of several women's camps. She helped to form the AVomen’s National Service Corps in Auckland shortly after the beginning of the present war, and became its commandant. The corps was the first body of women actively organized in the city for auxiliary war work and since then it has done much valuable work for the Army. 1
