RUHR RAIDED AGAIN

Duisburg- Main Target R.A.F. LOSES EIGHT PLANES LONDON, September 7. A strong force of R.A.F. bombers was over the Ruhr again last night. Duisburg being the main target. Eight of our planes were lost. Duisburg, the largest inland, port in Europe, was heavily attacked last month and also in July. It was its fifty-fifth raid. Berlin radio says that the R.A.F, bombed west German towns last night.

LONDON, Sept. 6.

An Air Ministry communique states that Flying Fortresses and Boston bombers of the United States Army Air Force, escorted by 400 R.A.F. and Allied fighters, attacked targets in northern France today. The targets included an air-frame factory at Meaulte, near Albert, and also airfields at Abbeville and St. Omer. Many squadrons of fighters escorted the bombers aud made diversionary sweeps. Two Fortresses and three fighters are missing. These are the first Fortresses to be lost, over France. Four Fortress squadrons participated In the raids, being the largest number yet sent. Boston bombers of the R.A.F., escorted by Spitfires, attacked the docks at Boulogne. AU the planes returned.

Vichy reports that 80 persons were killed and 117 injured as a result of the Allied air raid on Rouen on Saturday. Many were trapped under the ruins of houses. M. Laval telegraphed to the mayor of Rouen congratulating the citizens on their fortitude “against this new, odious aggression.”
