Sir, —I am surprised at the utter stupidity and lack of thought on the part of both “Caddie” and “Niblick.” “Niblick” complains of the disgusting waste of petrol and how, instead, it should be used for delivering his groceries. Has it yet occurred to him that private car owners are given hut a small petrol ration with which they may do as they wish? People must have some sort of mental relaxation-and especially when they are under the strain of a war. We find many ways of relaxing the mind. One ot them is sport. Just as others.play .squash, cricket, and tennis, so some of ufj play golf. If we were foolish enough to banish all types of sport during wartime and spend our time worrying about the war news, the whole nation would in all probability go off its head. I suggest that maybe my two “prize thinkers” have alWhy don’t they do something about it and see the other side of the question?—l am, etc., STYMIE. Palmerston North, September 6.
