French Admiral’s Gift

A cheque for £5O, as a personal ■gift to the New Zealand Patriotic Fund, has been received from RearAdmiral G. Thierry d’Argenlieu, High Commissioner for Fighting France in the Pacific, by the Acting-Prime Minister, Mr. Sullivan, through M. de la Tribouille, delegate in New Zealand of the French National Committee in London. . .... In a letter acknowledging tae gitt, Mr. Sullivan asked M. de la Tribouille to assure Rear-Admiral d’Argenlieu how his generous act was appreciated. “As you know,” the letter added, ‘his visit to New Zealand was an occasion of particular pleasure to us, affording as it did an opportunity for us to emphasize our support of the cause of Fighting France. . - “We are confident that fin,il victoiy will be achieved through the energies of the United Nations and look forward to that day when France will be free. I shall have the greatest pleasure in forwarding Rear-Admiral d’Argenlieu’S cheque to the National Patnotic Fund, and I can assure you that his considerate and generous act will be fully appreciated by all New Zealanders.”
