Labour From Army For Shearing

PROCEDURE OUTLINED

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, September 2. Advice that the Government had approved of the release from the Army of shearers, 1 muster ers, experienced shed, hands and shearers’ cooks for a period of approximately 12 weeks for shearing, was received by the. North Canterbury Dis-: trict Council of Primary Production in a letter from the Director of Primary Production. The letter stated also that district manpower officers had been instructed to release 52 men from essential industries for shearing. ' . In. all cases, except where their work is of exceptional urgency, no men are to be released from overseas units, and, in the case of men in key positions, the Army is to have adequate time, to effect re-, placements, one month being suggested. The procedure for obtaining release of the men was outlined in the letter. The worker himself, or a farmer or trade, union secretary .on behalf of a specified worker, will lodge his application for. release from the Army with the secretary of the Primary Production Council, together with all available'.particulars. The council will consider the application without delay, having regard to the adequacy of the run of work arranged by applicant on his own behalf or to the run of work which can be arranged for applicant.

LABOUR FOR DAIRYING . INDUSTRY

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, -September 2. The 'War Cabinet has promised that tho services of 800 men will be.'made available to the dairying industry in New Zealand to meet the present shortage ot labour, according to information received today from the president of the Taranaki Dairying and Farming Industrial Union of Employers, Mr. W. E. Scott, who is. also a member of the Dairy Board. Mr. Scott made representations regarding labour difficulties in dairy factories to certain’Ministers of the Crown and today interviewed the War Cabinet. The War Cabinet has promised to.make TarannkVs requirements available immediately and has promised to arrange for the release from military camps of the men applied for.
