FIRST JUVENILE EVENT
The Field At Wanganui
(By The Watcher.) For bo early In the season an entry of 11 for the first two-year-old contest, the Debutant Stakes on the second day of the Wanganui meeting, is quite satisfactory. As a matter of fact, a big field here is not desired, as the start is on the beginning of the home turn, and runners drawn wide in a big field would have very poor prospects. _ „ Particulars of the entry are as follows.— Pallelle, J. Hughes’s ch. f., by Man s Pal—Guardianelle. Screen, G. M. Currie’s hr. f.. by SpiralMotley. , , , Sea Spi, Mrs. L. M. Lamb s br. f., by Phaleron Bay—Ruling Spi. t Wildboy, Mrs. L. M. For the Woolston Handicap on the second day of the Grand National meeting a Christchurch punter was given a ticket on No 10 by mistake. He noticed the seller s error and went back to the window and exchanged it for a ticket on the horse be wanted to back. On the second day of the meeting Sir Modred won the Railway Plate, run over six furlongs. In the season of 1884-85 Vanguard started in seven races and won six. He won the Geraldine R.C.
