The preliminary announcement of a proposal that the .Masterion Borough Council should take over the whole of (Im Church Street-Bannister Si root block from the Midland Hotel to I’ilher’n Corner, as an open space in the centre of the town, was made at Hie Masterton Borough Council's special meeting ■ last night.
About 24 aerea would be involved. said Mr. Jordan, and he invited councillors fo consider llif proposal from a long-range point of view. The opening-up of the area would relieve congestion, increase the shopping area, and make a beauty spot, lie had in mind the development of the three sides opposite the block in Church Street, Dixon Street and Bannister Street, as shopping ureas.
