ACUTE SHORTAGE OF STAFF
Dannevirke Power Board
Dominion Special Servile DANNEVIRKE, August 26. “Staff matters are causing me considerable anxiety, particularly as the board will be without the service of an electrical wireman after the next call-up, said the engineer Mr. F. O. Devlin, in his report to the meeting of the Dannevirke Power Board today. “The line staff will be reduced to a level whereby only routine work can be dealt with and then only providing breakdowns do not occur.’ The chairman, Mr. M. O. Grainger, said that the members would have noticed that the board recently had to appeal for a member of the outside staff occupying an important key position whose case should come up for review in three months. The position with regard to the board’s staff was today desperate. At present the board was carrying on solely on the sufferance of the two military appeal boards operating in Hawke s Bay. When the next ballot came out on September 15 the board would not have a single wireman left and it was impossible to secure replacements. The board had a great amount of work in hand, but because of the present staff difficulties he must warn the public that it would be impossible to deal with the rush. In the past members were against appeals, hut thev would in future calls-up of their staff have to appeal whether they liked it or not.
