MISSING PLANE AND TWO OCCUPANTS

Unsuccessful Search

An unsuccessful search was made yesterday for an aircraft of the Royal New Zealand Air Force with its two occupants, which has been reported missing. The plane was piloted by 1 not Officer Mason Irvine Elliott, who had with him as a passenger Lieutenant Harold Francis Bollard. The next-of-kin of the pilot is his wife, Mrs. K. Elliott, 56 Maida Vale Road, Roseneath, Wellington. Li e 'i' tenant Bollard's wife is Mrs. H. I>. Bollard, IS Marsden Avenue, Karori, Wellington.

A son of the late Hon. R. F. Bollard, a ‘former Minister of the Crown, Mr. Bollard, who is 3,7 years of age, was .educated at Hamilton High School, Collc’e. and Victoria University College. He took a leading part in student activities at Victoria College, where rille shootin- and hockey were his principal sportin- interests. He was a particularly -cod rifle shot, and one of. the strongest supporters of the V.U.C. Rifle Club. After leaving live university he was for n time on the staff of the legal firm now known as Chapman, Tripp, Watson, James and Co., and subsequently he began practice as barrister and solicitor in partnership with Mr. 11. N. Burns, who enlisted some time ago and is now a prisoner of war. In addition to being a New Zealand University hockey “blue,” Mr. Bollard is ■t hockey All Black, having been a member of the 1932 New Zealand team which toured Australia without a loss, anil, he is also an international hockey umpire, having umpired the match between New Zealand and the Prince of Mnnavadar's team in 1938. At various times he has been secretary and chairman of the Wellington Hockey Association, and secretary of the Now Zealand Hockey Umpires’ Association. For a while he was also secretary of the Wellington Lawn Tennis Association. Mr. Bollard is married, with one child.
