DELAY IN SUPPLY
Boots And Splints For Crippled Children
The executive council of the New Zealand Crippled Children Society is viewing with concern the long delay in some districts in the provision of boots and splints for crippled children, both at public hospitals and by commercial firms, states the annual report of the council. Branches have been asked to give attention to the matter as it affects their respective districts, so as to enable the council to take action to improve the position. The making of boots is almost entirely undertaken by machines and unless some scheme is evolved to ensure that the art is passed on, the society may, in the near future be faced With a real problem of having boots made for crippled children by apprentices with little or no experience. Branches have been asked to take the problem up with their respective hospital boards with a view to arranging for apprentices to be employed by hospital splint and boot departments, it being felt that the large demand which will be made in this industry with the return of disabled soldiers should offer scope for the employment of crippled lads.
