STANDARD OIL UNDER FIRE AGAIN
Agreement With Germany (Received August 5, 11.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, August 4. Mr. Patrick Gibson, special assistant to the Attorney-General, testified before the Patents Committee of the Senate that the Standard Oil Company’s a greement with the German chemical trust, I. G. Farbenindustrie. had forced British companies to payroyalties indirectly to the Germans since the outbreak of war. Mr. Gibson said that the agreement on catalytic refining and associated processes which was international in character and which prescribed conditions throughout the world, was promoted from the beginning under the control and direction of the German Government. Standard Oil sought to create by force of agreements, a patent position covering the entire field of modern catalytic relining of gasoline and tying up the research of the future. Mr. Farish, president of Standard Oil, telegraphed to the chairman, Senator Bone, complaining that Mr. Gibson’s testimony was prejudiced and misleading.
