Vice-Regal. Government House, Wellington, August 5. His Excellency the Governor-General presided at a meeting of the Executive Council this morning. Later, at Government House, his Excellency presented to Mrs. D. P. Evans, of New Plymouth, the Distinguished Flying Medal which was awarded to her late son, Sergeant M. Evans, R.N.Z.A.F. Subsequently, his Excellency received Air Commodore R. V. Goddard. Chief of the Air Staff. This afternoon their Excellencies the Governor-General and Lady Newall, attended by Major C. J. Holland-Mar-tin, were present at the Arbor Day planting ceremony at Central Park. Brooklyn.

Captain J. W. Burgess arrived from Auckland by train yesterday. Mr. J. Fletcher, Commissioner of Defence Construction, returned from Auckland yesterday morning. Mr. R. E. Price, chairman of the Waterfront Control Commission, is visiting Auckland. Count K. A. Wodzicki, Consul-Gen-eral for Poland, has returned to Wellington from the South Island. Mr. N. E. Higgs, assistant-general manager for New Zealand of the De Havilland Aircraft Co., has returned to Wellington after, a visit to Sydney. Mr. G. J. Reid was unanimously reelected chairman of the executive of the Wellington Navy League when the executive met for the first time after the recent, annual meeting. The Rt. Rev. J. Davie, Moderator of the Presbyterian Church, was given a public farewell and presentation in Masterton on Tuesday night, and left yesterday morning for his new charge at Gisborne.
