WELLINGTON CRICKET
Prospects For 1942-43 Season "We don’t know what the future jiolds but we must keep the game going, said the chairman of the management committee of the Wellington Cricket Association, in reviewing the past season s operations and the coming season s prospects at a meeting of the committee yesteMry Howitt said that the association had great hopes for the coming season but it was clear that one-day cricket would have to be continued for some time. Though they had come through a trying season, the committee could take credit to itself, if certain reductions by the city council were made, that they would be able to square the budget for the year. Some of their playing grounds had gone, and it would be necessary to work in with the Wellington Mercantile Cricket League during next season in order to see that as many grounds as possible were made available. Messrs. W. A. Baker and I. Nimmo were appointed to represent the association at the annual meeting of the Wellington Provincial Sports Federation on August 26. . The annual meeting of delegates of the association was fixed for September 21. Mr. H. E. Moore said that the committee during the past year had been a happy family, aud much of the credit for the good work which bad been done had been due to the taet and ability shown by the chairman. Mr. Baker also paid a tribute to Mr. Howitt’s able leadership. . . In replying, the chairman said it baa been a pleasure to work with such an enthusiastic committee, and he hoped the game would go on successfully next season and for many seasons to come.
