LONDON HAS ALERT
Little Enemy Air Activity Over Britain LONDON, August 3. Enemy air activity over Britain last night was light, three raiders being destroyed. Bombs were dropped on East Anglia and the Midlands, causing some damage and casualties. London had a short alert, but no bombs were dropped. Yesterday, Spitfires bombed railway targets and barges in the Low Countries. Hying singly, British bombers in daylight yesterday attacked the German towns of Hanover, Wilhelmshaven and Frankfurt. One bomber is missing. During July, Britain’s night defences destroyed 43 raiders and in daylight 55 were shot down. Tn one week night fighters, gunners, and intruder lighters over enemy bases and occupied territory between them destroyed 37 machines. This brings the total of night raiders destroyed over Britain this year to 132. By the end of last month, pilots of the Fighter Command had brought their total of enemy aircraft destroyed in daylight since the war began to 4452.
