TRAMS THROUGH CITY
Differing Opinions Over Resumption Sufficient work should have been completed by last night to make it possible, in the opinion of the council’s advisers, for the south side tram tracks in the city central area to be used today, said the mayor, Mr. Hislop, at last night’s meeting of the Wellington City Council. Within a few days it should be possible to use both tracks and for ordinary traffic to resume. Exception had been taken, however, by the Labour Department scaffolding inspectors to the use of one tram track today, but he had not heard of this till au hour and a half before the meeting. The city engineer, Mr. K. E. Luke, said the inspectors contended that traffic vibration would endauger the safety of the workers on the scaffolding. He did not agree with this. Mr. Hislop said he thought it farfetched to suggest that traffic vibration would shake down tli.e. scaffolding or dislodge workers from it.
