EARLIER ISSUE OF WOOL COUPONS

Knitting For Prisoners

Close allcution is being given by the Prisoners of War Inquiry Office to suppliers of wool required by next-of-kin for the knitting of garments for relatives in prison camps. It was staled on Saturday that arrangements are being made to issue coupons earlier to enable wool to be knitted, and it is hoped that it will be possible to obtain additional wool, the use of which will be confined to knitted goods for prisoners of war. A cable has been received from the High Commissioner's Office, London, saying that safety razor blades of a certain make have been sent to every New Zealand prisoner of war, and that arrangements have been made for forward-

iug similar blades in bulk to British camp captains for distribution to New Zealand prisoners. These .steps have been taken because the blades, which tit a particular type of razor used by the prisoners, are not on the New Zealand market. Following are the numbers of officers and men held prisoner in Italian camps s— P.G. 52. 966 men add 2 officers; P.G. 57, 591 men: P.G. 65, 512 men; P.G. 38, 91 officers; P.G. 35, 46 officers. Some months ago the Italian authorities prohibited music being sent to men in camps, and the Prisoners of War Office learns that music personally addressed to men in Italian camps is still not allowed. All prisoners interned in the German camps Stalag Luft I and II have now been transferred to Stalag Luft HI. Acknowledgement cards for quarterly personal parcels were received this week from Stalag IX C, Stalag XVIII A, and Stalag Luft I.
