PATRIOTIC CAMPAIGN
Comforts For Fighting Forces A concerted drive, in which all the provincial patriotic councils and their zone committees will take part, is to lie launched on Monday next to raise funds to provide comforts for the fighting forces. Though the campaign will be conducted on a national basis, each of the 11 provincial patriotic councils will- be responsible for special local arrangements which will vary to suit district requirements. Arrangements have been made for representatives of the National Patriotic* Fund Board and its chief expending agents to give a series of addresses which will deal with aspects of the patriotic movement. The campaign is to last a fortnight, and in the second week the opiwrtunity will be taken of answering questions that have been raised from time >to time in the hope of clearing up points of misunderstanding. This will be done in interesting style. A feature of the second week will be the sale of coupons oh which will be printed the individual cost of a representative selection of‘comforts, and it will be open to subscribers, on paying the requisitejiniount. to nominate that his or her contribution should be expended ou any one of these gifts. The value of the gifts shown on the coupon will be from 2/G for 50 cigarettes to £5OO for a recreation hut. The National Patriotic Fund Board’s year ends ou September 30, and at present, only about half of the £1,000,000 it has budgeted for is in sight. On the provincial patriotic councils falls tlu‘ important twofold task not. only of raising sufficient, for their own purposes, but also to meet, the requirements of the national body. Mr. Ward, -M.L.C., honorary secretary of the Wellington Provincial Patriotic Council, has circularized all zone secretaries in the province. The Wellington province's quota is £215,000, of which £200,220 is required for the National Board and the balance to cover the cost of tlie normal activities of the Wellington Provincial Council in connexion with the purchasing of wool, subsidizing the quarterly gift parcels, providing sports gear, entertainments in camps and clubs, and for clubs, hos-’ tels and similar purposes.
