£49 OVERTIME IN FOUR WEEKS

Male Nurse At Hospital The fact that one male nurse had earned £49 in overtime for a period of four weeks up to July 8, was stated by Mr. J. Purvis at last night’s meeting of the Wellington Hospital Board. Other male nurses were also earning substantial sums in overtime, said Mr. Purvis. A proportion of the work they did was for Army patients and in view of the serious shortage of male nurses, he considered the Army should assist with the services of medical corps personnel. It w’ould be good training for such men and would assist tlie board both from staff and financial viewpoints. Mrs. Knox Gilmer, chairman of the start committee, said an approach had been made to tlie Army and a reply was expected shortly.
