SHAVING PROBLEM
Reason For Rise In Price
"The advent of the safety razor some years ago revolutionized tho art of shaving, and transformed what was then a major service in hairdressing saloons into a very minor one.” said Mr. A. L. Knowslev. secretary of tho Wellington Provincial Tobacconists and Hairdressers’ Association, yesterday. “Only 10 per cent, of men now shave more or less regularly in saloons. These could be referred io as ‘the survival of the toughest'; beards which refuse to succumb to the ethciency of the safetv razor, and they present a difficulty and time-taking problem to the barber. It would be a more simple procedure to skin them than to shave them.| “The costs entailed in shaving have increased by 51 l>er cent, since 1935, and tiie new charge xvill absorb only part of the increased cost. However, the new price will arrest wliat was a growing tendency on the part of saloons toward cm minn'ting tiie shaving service altogether.
