Large Attendance At Funeral IMPRESSIVE SERVICE

The funeral of the Rt. Rev. Dr. T. 11. Sprott, Bishop of Wellington from 1911 to 1935, took place in Wellington yesterday morning. The large attendance at the service in the Cathedral Church of St. Paul and at the graveside, and also the many beautiful floral tributes bore testimony to the affection and respect iu which Bishop Sprott was held by all sections of the community. Pupils of St. Mark’s Church School lined the driveway of the Cathedral Church, every seat of which was occupied. The service was deeply impressive. Canon D. J. Davies read the Opening Sentences; the Bishop of Wellington, the Rt. Rev. 11. St. Barbe Holland, the Lesson, I Corinthians, chapter 15, verse 16 to the end; and the Archbishop of New Zealand, the'Most Rev. C. West-Watson, read the Prayers. The hymn, ''Now the Labourer's Task is Over,” was sung. The congregation stood while the organist, Mr. 11. H. Nelson, played Chopin’s Funeral March. Organ music before the service was: “I Know That My Redeemer Livetli” (“The Messiah”), the slow movement of the overture to "The Messiah” and "Crucifixus” (Bach). Pall-bearers were: The Rev. C. R. Kreeft, Vicar of Eastbourne; the Rev. J. R. Neild, Vicar of Martinborough; the Rev. IL S. I. Kenny, Vicar of Pe* tone; the Rev. E. M. McLevle, Vicar of Roseneath; the Rev. F. 0. Ball, Vicar of Island Bay (all of whom were ordained by Bishop Sprott), and the Rev. Hohopa Taepa, Wairarapa, representing the Maori race. Among those present were: The Chief Justice (Sir Michael Myers) ; the Minister in charge of War Expenditure and Deputy-Chairman of the War Cabinet, ' Mr. Holland; the Minister of Armed Forces and War Co-ordination, Mr. Coates; the Minister of Defence. Mr, Jones; the Minister of Supply and Munitions, Mr. Sullivan; the associate Minister of Supply and Munitions, Mr. Hamilton ;■ the mayor of Wellington. Mr. Hislop ; Mr. Justice Smith; Canon H. Watson, Marton ; Archdeacon E. J. Rich, Masterton; Archdeacon F. 11. Petrie, Feilding; Canon N. F. E. Robertshawe; the Rev. A. L. Hansell; Lieutenant? Colonel Hardwick-Smith; Messrs. H. H. Cornish, K.C.; W. J. Sim, K.C., representing the Maunganui College Board of Trustees; T. D. Hall; L. O. 11. Tripp; C. W. Budd, C. M. Turrell; B. Blundell; M. S. Galloway ; J. S. Harcourt; R. A. Wright and- W. J. Gaudin, Wellington City Council; R. E. Trine; R. L. Button ; IV. Brown; A. E. Mubin. Among the many who sent wreaths were; The Standing Committee of the Diocese of 'Wellington, the Mothers’ Union, the Council of the Girls’ Friendly Society, the trustees of the Wellington Diocesan School for Girls, Nga Tawa, Marton; Sprott House, Nga Titwa, the girls of Nga Tawa, the Nga Tawa Old Girls’ Association, the ■Wellington branch of the Nga Tawa Ohl Girls’ Association, the Board of Governors of Marsden School, Karori, the Marsden Old Girls’ Association, the Whanganui College Board of Trustees; the vicar, churchwardens and vestry of the Cathedral Church of St. Paul; the choirmaster-and choir of the Cathedral Church of St. Paul: St. Mark’s Parish, 'Wellington ; the parishioners and vestry of St. Matthews’ Church, Brooklyn; the vicar, vestry and parishioners of St. Augustine’s, Petone, the churchwardens and v.estry of Christ's . Church, Wanganui, the Chinese Mission,.the Diocesan office staff, the ’Wellington repertory Theatre.
